Hair Rebonding, Keratin Treatment & Hair Smoothening

Hair Rebonding, Keratin Treatment & Hair Smoothening

Straight smooth hairs is not a dream!!

According to Sheela N Kishore  (Aesthetician) there are three basic ways to chemically straighten hair –  rebonding, smoothening or keratin treatment, depending on how straight the hair is required to be. Find out which one is best-suited for your hair.

What is Rebonding?

According to Sheela N Kishore, Creative Director/Aesthetician of Sheela's Salon, Bhopal.

This treatment is quite suited for people who have very curly hair and the end result is poker straight hair. In this process, the bonds of your hair are broken with the help of a chemical formula and then again neutralisers are applied to restructure the bonds. By doing this, the existing bonds that exist in curly hair are broken and once the hair is straightened, new bonds are made to rearrange the physical structure of your hair. This is a more permanent method than keratin or smoothening. However, if you love your curls,

Rebonding is a chemical hair treatment that makes your hair straight, sleek smooth and shiny. It is a permanent and expensive procedure. Prices for the treatment may vary across salons due to products used, service, your hair type and post treatment care.

Each type of hair has a natural bond. Curly or wavy, are the result of natural bonds that give the hair its physical quality. The cream softener or relaxant used in the rebonding treatment breaks the hair structure. Then a neutraliser bonds the structure again and makes hair straight. In simpler terms the rebonding treatment changes your natural hair structure and restructures it.

Once your hair is straightened you have to touch up the new growth every three months, six months or a year, depending upon your growth.

What is Keratin?

Keratin treatment relaxes the curls ( frizziness) of the hair – making it only appear to be straight. It not only promises to make your hair smooth, shiny and frizz-free, it also makes it straight but not in an unnatural-looking, poker-straight strands. It softens your curls and with the help of other chemicals, helps retain the look for a good few months.

What is Hair Smoothening ?

This process is similar to keratin but instead of keratin a different cream is used. It is best-suited for people who have wavy hair or even straight hair which is frizzy. It will smooth out the frizz and make the hair more manageable and straight but not make it look too unnatural. People with very curly hair may not like the results as it won’t stay for too long. But if you wish to have natural-looking, straight hair which does not look artificially straightened, opt for this. The results won’t last too long unless you have very light waves or straight hair but will save you from having bad hair days.

Is rebonding harmful for hair?

Some times hair rebonding can turn into a disaster if you do not take care of your hair. Hair will need extra pampering once it has been rebonded. You cannot ignore your hair just because it looks straight and shiny. Always remember Rebonding done from a reputed and trustworthy salon lasts longer and hair quality does not suffer. Discuss your hair condition and the treatment before your scheduled appointment.

How to take care of rebonded hair

Taking care of rebonded hair is very important to maintain a healthy mane. Only a well-looked after crown of hair can stay beautiful, always. Here’s what you have to do, to treat your rebonded hair with care and prevent hair fall.
  • Always use a shampoo for straight/rebonded hair
  • Don't forget to use a conditioner every time you wash your hair
  • Always apply a hair serum after towel drying hair.
  • Oil your hair regularly
  • Use natural hair masks once a week before washing your hair. You can use aloe vera gel, curd or olive oil with an egg.
  • Oil and steam your hair every fifteen days. You can wrap a towel dipped in warm water, around your hair. This will deep condition your hair.
  • Consume a balanced diet. Include nuts and sprouts in your diet.
Hair that is taken care of will be frizz free and smooth to touch. Rebonded hair is susceptible to dryness. Therefore ensuring that your hair remains hydrated and full of life is very important.

Sheela N Kishore advises to opt for either rebonding or smoothening as the re-growth in rebonding is completely natural and in case of smoothening, while it won’t make hair extremely straight, it looks more natural and does not damage hair as much.
